No, the Liberty Bell was NOT hidden in Kutztown

There is a persistent legend around Kutztown that the Liberty Bell was stored in the barn that stood across the road from the hotel, where Fleetwood Bank is now located. Unfortunately, there is nothing to that story; the Liberty Bell's route has been well-documented, and the nearest it ever came to Kutztown was its destination at Zion's UCC in what is today the 600 block of Hamilton St. in Allentown. The legend may have originated in some confusion between "Saucony" and "Saucon" because the Liberty Bell was transported through the Saucon Valley (south of Bethlehem).

While it would be great for Kutztown to be part of this historic event, the society must dispel this legenin the name of accuracy.
