Basket Weaving Program and Class

  • Kutztown Area Historical Society 212 South Whiteoak Street Kutztown, PA, 19530 United States (map)

Debbi Zvanut is looking forward to sharing a brief history of basketry, shaping her talk to start with the first basket known from 6000 yrs ago to Native American baskets and more modern types.  Debbi has been weaving baskets for 35 years, learning when she was 10. After being a hobby weaver and learning from local teachers, she started sharing her skills with Girl Scouts and 4-H programs and now leads adult classes in 5 locations including her home.

She will also include the types of baskets created in the northeastern states with samples from hardwood baskets from PA and sharing those she purchased during her travels. There will be time for questions, followed by a lesson for 12 who will create a small circular basket.
